Symbols Copy and Paste by Set

Ten favourites from each set are below. Each one is a real character rather than a picture, so it pastes into bios, chats and documents just like a letter does. Search by name β€” try heart, crescent or dagger β€” or follow a set's link for the complete collection.

How to Copy and Paste Symbols

  1. Pick a symbol. Browse the sets above, or type a name into the search box to filter all six at once.
  2. Tap it once. The character goes straight to your clipboard and a small confirmation appears at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Paste it where you need it. Long-press and choose Paste on a phone, or press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac) on a computer.
  4. Check how it looks. A symbol takes its shape from the font of the app you paste into, so preview your bio or name before you save it.

Using the same symbol often? Phones can expand a short code into it for you. On iPhone, add one under Settings β€Ί General β€Ί Keyboard β€Ί Text Replacement; on Android, Gboard keeps them in its Personal dictionary. Type something like ;moon and the keyboard swaps in ☾.

Text Symbols vs Emoji Symbols

Some characters on this page exist in two forms. The cross ✝ and the Orthodox cross ☦ are text symbols that have been in Unicode since the early 1990s, and they draw in the same colour as the letters around them. Both also have an emoji twin, ✝️ and ☦️: the same character followed by an invisible variation selector that asks the device for the colour artwork instead.

That is why one symbol can look different from one app to the next. Text-style characters such as ✿, ☾ or † pick up the font, size and colour of the words around them, which suits usernames, dividers and understated bios. Emoji-style characters such as 🌸, 😺 or 🏹 always arrive in colour, and they look slightly different on Apple, Google, Samsung and Windows devices because each company draws its own emoji.

If a character shows up as an empty box, the device simply has no font that contains it. That happens most with very new emoji, such as the 🫢 heart hands added in 2021, on phones that have not been updated. The older text symbols are the safer choice when something has to display everywhere.

Where Copied Symbols Work

Symbols are welcome almost everywhere people see your name β€” except in the handle that forms your profile link. Here is how the rules break down on the apps people ask about most.

Symbols Copy and Paste FAQ

Are these symbols images or text?

Text. Every symbol on this page is a Unicode character with its own code point, so it copies, pastes, searches and resizes like a letter. Nothing is downloaded, and the symbol keeps working in apps that strip formatting.

Why does a symbol look different after I paste it?

The app you paste into draws the character with its own font. Text symbols follow that font's style, and emoji follow the platform's own artwork β€” Apple, Google, Samsung and Microsoft each draw their own β€” so a 😺 on an iPhone is not pixel-identical to the same 😺 on a Windows PC.

Why do I see an empty box instead of a symbol?

The device has no font that contains that character. Updating the operating system usually fixes it for emoji; for rarer text symbols, pick a long-established alternative from the same set, such as ✝ instead of πŸ•†.

Can I use symbols in my Instagram or TikTok username?

Not in the @handle β€” both apps limit it to letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Display names and bios do accept symbols and emoji, and that is where they are meant to go.

Is copying symbols here free and private?

Yes. Copying uses your browser's own clipboard, and nothing you search for or copy is sent anywhere.
